In the beginning of October, N and I ran the Annual Cow Run 10 Miler. We ran it the first time two years ago in 2017. For some background about the race and to read about our experience last time, read my post from two years ago here.
We arrived in Salem, NJ bright and early and got signed in. Then we hopped on the bus to the start line. I sadly forgot our KT tape at home. But N had his knee brace thankfully so he was ok.
The race began a bit late, which was a little annoying, but it wasn’t too bad. Once again, a lot of people were dressed in cow costumes or accessories to fit the theme so that was fun.
A big change from last time was that there were no cows on the course at Cow Town, where the race starts. This was one of the things that we found so fun and different last time so we were sad about it. We heard that last year someone got hurt when one of the cows got in their way, no idea if this is true, or if that is why there were no cows out. But if it did happen, it makes sense that they changed it.
We had a pretty good race, our time was really good and we both felt good for most of it. I ran into some trouble with hip pain around mile 8. But I pushed through and finished with a PR!!
At the end there were several cows so we got some fun pictures. They gave a nice post race snack bag and a voucher for a free beer. We had to sign up to receive our medals as they had been ordered but had not arrived in time. We received them a couple of weeks later in the mail.
All in all, a super fun, casual race that we really enjoyed! We will definitely keep this on our list of fun races not too far from us.
