Last night, N and I started our third week of Kitchn Synch. We have been having so much fun with this!
We started out with our protein:
Ground Beef
And our oil:
Canola Oil
We opened up the Odds and Ends package to find:
1 container Beef Broth
1 container Soy Sauce
1 container Rice Vinegar
1 bag White Rice
1 bag fresh Basil
1 Red Chili
3 cloves Garlic
1 Lime
1 Cucumber
1 Shallot
1 bag Salt
1 bag Sugar
While most of the ingredients were nice and fresh, as with the first week, the greens, in this case the Basil, were a little wilted and starting to brown. They still tasted good though.
Ingredient Freshness: B-
This meal was fast and easy. It required a pot, a pan and a bowl.
Ease of Cooking: A
This was a quick and easy meal to make, the rice was the majority of the time and just needed to be left alone. Total cook time was 30 minutes.
Speed of Cooking: A
Most of the instructions were clear and easy to follow. There was some confusion about the chili as the recipe doesn’t say if the seeds and membranes should be added or discarded. We added them and enjoyed the kick of heat.
Note: this recipe was a completely different format from all of the previous recipes as well as the others for this week. Both N and I prefer the other style as this one seemed cluttered with less pictures.
Recipe Instruction: A-
This meal was really good. The rice gave a nice base while the Thai beef had a rich slightly spicy flavor tempered by the bright herb flavor of the basil. The cucumber salad had a nice tangy flavor and a great crunch. This also added a nice contrast to the spice and the soft texture of the beef and rice. N & I both found this meal to be quite filling.
Taste & Filling: A
Look wise the meal was spot on.
Looks like the Recipe: A
If we can find the Red Chili, which I believe we will be able to do, then we can and will make this recipe again.
Remake ability:
Overall this was a really good meal.
