On March 1, the history of the book class took me to the Grolier Club.
The Grolier Club is a book club for high end book collectors in New York. Members lend their collections to the club for exhibitions. They also sometimes give the club donations of money, books or even a whole collection. The result is that the club now has a very nice library collection which is open to the public (by appointment). We had a very cool visit to the Grolier Club’s library where we were shown some of the libraries rarer and more interesting acquisitions.
After the library visit, we went upstairs to hear two Grolier club members book collecting methods, philosophies, etc. It was really fascinating.
